Where the Rainbow Ends

As we are heading to the end of the first half of this course, I wanted to corporate

what we have learned so far. My goal was to create a visual experience rather than a pretty illustration. This work was inspired by one of my favorite films, Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick. The film is full of strong and provocative imagery and I wished to translate such an imagery in abstract/graphic language.

There are three different modes, homePage, stageTwo, and stageThree, which can be navigated by a simple mouse click. I spent the most time figuring out the ways to achieve a smooth transition between stages. To enable this, I heavily relied on the system variable frameCount.

I used symbols and devices such as searchlight and dilated the pupil to diversify visual experience. Rainbow, the recurring motif of the film, appears several times throughout the work and where it ends signifies the place where the illusion ends and the real-life begins. Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2, the theme song of the film, will be played at the end of the last stage.
